ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS This portion of the web site devoted to Carbonates has many origins and sources of insight. Probably most is owed to Robert Folk, with whom Christopher Kendall had the opportunity to spend two years as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Texas at Austin. Folk's notes and lectures were the inspiration for the Section on Carbonate Petrography on this web site.

The general introduction to Carbonate classification, grain types, facies, diagenesis and plays owes its origins to long conversations in the field with Douglas Shearman, Graham Evans, Michael Philcox, James Lee Wilson, and most important of all - Jack Wendte. While at Gulf Research Christopher Kendall, using earlier papers and research results, then wrote a characterization of Carbonates for oil explorationists. This technical report and Kendall's block diagrams became the template for the introduction to a field guide to the Bahamas that was edited by and added to by Stan Frost, and Mitch Harris. Christopher Kendall has copied and modified this introduction and, with Nassir Alnaji, created the current web pages on Carbonate depositional settings, plays and diagenesis.
