Sedpak Movies

Sedpak - Sequence Stratigraphy Simulations

To make your own Sedpak Simulations
You can make movies like those below using the Sedimentary Simulation Sedpak. To make these movies you should DOWNLOAD Sedpak and run this program on your PC under Redhat Linux Version 8.0 or 9.0 You can capture the screen dumps of your Sedpak simulation runs and use QuickTime Professional to string the screen dump images together and make a movie.

NB  For SEPM Strata visitors using Windows machines, all the QuickTime movies on the website have been uploaded to and can be viewed on YouTube SepmStrata. Alternatively Quick Time *.mov files on Strata can be uploaded to your Windows machine and viewed with VLC. This is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files.

QuickTime is supported by Apple for the Mac, but Apple no longer provides security updates for QuickTime for Windows, so this software is vulnerable to exploitation by hackers if QuickTime movies are viewed in the Windows environment.

Click on links below to view YouTube and QuickTime movies of the output of the simulation Sedpak.

The best way to view the YouTube movie frames is to first click on the pause symbol on the control bar and then use the mouse to grab the thumb (red circle) on the red seekbar (this tracks the progress of the movie) and move the thumb back and forth to chosen frames and so gain a better understanding of the evolving sedimentary geometries.

In contrast the best way to view the QuickTime movies is to control their motion using the arrow keys on your keyboard.
  • The left arrow will step the film back
  • The right arrow will step it forward
If you use either of these schemes to view the film you will be able to step through it slowly while examining the products of each sea level position while gaining a better understanding of the principles explained below.
